Apprentice Greenkeeper

Rishton Golf Club are looking to recruit an apprentice golf greenkeeper to assist in the day-to-day set up and maintenance of the course, all related practice facilities, and planted area. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in golf and greenkeeping.

The role is varied and would include.

  • Mowing of all golf course areas
  • Undertake bunker maintenance weeding, mowing, and raking
  • Assist in maintaining and mowing landscape areas
  • Renovations to play areas including verti-draining, brushing, coring, scarifying and top dressing
  • Repairing divots
  • Identifying common pests, diseases, and weeds in turf areas at an entrance level 
  • Competently operating all turf equipment, including checking equipment prior to us
  • Undertakes routine 
  • Carries out basic hand tool maintenance
  • Identify basic common golf course grasses and plants 
  • Prepare ground to establish turf and new golf course features 
  • Maintain the Practice Facilities. 
  • Actively involved in creating and shaping new golf course features • Actively involved in bunker reconstruction. 
  • Unblocking and maintenance of drains and drainage systems. 
  • Tree enclosures and hedges felling, pruning, removal and disposal of unwanted growth. 
  • Maintain planted / garden areas on course. 
  • Maintain the external clubhouse and car park environment. 
  • Basic course setup including setting of tee markers, cutting holes, and tidying bunkers 
  • Maintain path areas, shoe cleaner and ball washers. Empty litter bins.

Our ideal candidate would live locally, be keen to learn, hardworking, reliable and have some interest in greenkeeping. Being a golfer would be advantageous but no essential.

Hours of work at 37.5 hours per week typically between 6am and 4pm with some weekend work when required. You will be paid minimum wage dependent on age; this will be reviewed throughout your apprenticeship and may increase depending on performance and progression.

You will be expected to work towards a level 2 Golf Greenkeeping Apprenticeship, this will take 24 months to complete. This is a work based programme using blended learning technologies delivered by Myerscough College.

Qualification requirement is minimum 4 GCSE’s at D/3 including Maths and English.
